Description
My second attempt at capturing our galactic neighbor.
The Andromeda Galaxy - M31
- The nearest neighbor to our home Milky Way Galaxy.
- About 2.5 million light years from earth.
- Contains an estimated 1 trillion stars compared to the Milky Way's 200-400 billion.
- Will most likely collide with and consume our galaxy in 3.75 billion years.
For those interested:
- Approximately 18 min of total capture time taken over a span of 3 hours.
- 1030 object photos and 974 calibration photos.
- Hand tracked, repositioned about every 10 photos to keep up with the rotation of the earth.
- About 230GB of input data, 1.8TB of data during preprocessing.
- About 35 hours of preprocessing, calibrating and combining to a single image, then a couple of hours of post-processing, resulting in this finished photograph.
- Captured 10-14-2020 9PM-12AM EST
